THE LG SURFACING STORY
LG HI-MACS solid surface was introduced in 1995. Since then, LG HI-MACS has been installed in homes and businesses all around the world.
LG HI-MACS has proven itself as a highly durable and desirable surface through years of daily use by satisfied customers throughout these regions. Available in North America since 1997, LG HI-MACS has gained an unprecedented following among solid surface fabricators, designers and discriminating homeowners across the country.
For more than a decade, LG HI-MACS has been a leader in the solid surface industry. As a manufacturing company, LG Solid Source (LGSS) constantly establishes new benchmarks to set themselves apart from the competition. As a result of these efforts, the premium LG Volcanics line was introduced in 2003. With its unique translucent larger particulate, LG Volcanics rapidly gained momentum among discerning Interior Designers. Also in 2003, LGSS celebrated its first milestone when they solidified their first “big box” retail account. LG HI-MACS was rolled out nationally in Lowe’s by the end of the year. Due in large part to the Lowe’s business, 2004 brought a lot of trials and tribulations that eventually led to a substantial increase in consumer recognition. As a result of the increase demand for LG surfacing products in North America, LGSS reached another milestone in December 2004 and opened the first LG North American manufacturing facility in Calhoun, Georgia. The plant produces LG HI-MACS, LG Volcanics, and LG EDEN for a vast network of major national distributors, 2000 kitchen and bath dealers, and more than 1300 Lowe’s home improvement sites throughout the US.
After much success in the North American countertop market, LG decided to expand their product offering and launched a natural quartz surfacing line, LG Viatera, in 2005. Manufactured in Italy, the LG Viatera collection was designed for those who prefer the elegant look of stone, but desire a product that is easy to maintain and like all LG countertop surfacing products, is backed by the industry leading 15 year warranty.
Also in 2005, LGSS was honored to receive the “Countertop Supplier of the Year” award from Lowe’s for the second consecutive year.
In 2006 LG gained more market share with the launch of the second generation LG Volcanics which displayed an even larger translucent particulate. Also in 2006 was the introduction of the Lovello stainless steel sink collection and the LG Adhesives line. The Lovello sink selection was designed as an alternative to the sleek seamless acrylic bowls already offered by LG.
In 2007, LG celebrated a groundbreaking year with the launch of the industries first acrylic sustainable countertop collection, LG EDEN. The LG EDEN collection received certifications from NSF for installation in schools and food prep areas, as well as Greengaurd for low emissions and waste during the manufacturing process. LG EDEN is currently the only acrylic countertop that utilizes between 12 and 19 percent recycled content. Also in 2007, the LG Viatera natural quartz surfacing collection was introduced in Lowe’s stores on the east coast. The national rollout is currently underway, and LG Viatera will be nationwide by 2nd quarter of 2008.
